Bethany Bowman Media Guide - PDF

Bethany is responsible for planning and executing the professional development of the organization as our educators pursue and focus on instructional quality. She oversees Leader U, Professional Educators of Tennessee’s annual professional development conference, and is in charge of implementing and maintaining program functions that conform to district and state objectives and serve as a resource to other school personnel and organizations.

A Magna cum laude graduate of Lee University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Bethany’s unique experience and background in public education are aligned with organizational needs and strategic priorities. A former public school teacher and Florida Department of Education employee, the skills she possesses are instrumental to the success of the professional development activities of the organization. During her four years at the Florida Department of Education, she helped develop technology for all sixty seven school districts. Her background and expertise in database design and development gives the organization the ability to think broadly and consider impacts across systems and within the organization.

Our members have repeatedly asked that we provide Professional Development opportunities to them. Student achievement depends on rigorous standards and a knowledgeable educator. As an organization it is an opportunity to deliver top quality opportunities for our members, and provide greater collaboration with local school systems. We understand that as part of our core business we must provide professional learning and development for educators that will enhance professional competence and confidence, build leadership qualities and lead to higher academic achievement for students in Tennessee. The tenure law connects the state’s new teacher evaluation system to high-quality feedback and professional development opportunities. There is tremendous need to create and expand professional development for new and low-performing teachers and expand professional learning opportunities. Our strategy is to work with the state’s educators in pursuit of these opportunities and focus on instructional quality and implementing a coherent system of support for all stakeholders. It is quite a challenge, and Bethany will oversee this component for the organization to meet the specific needs of educators, schools, LEAs and the community.
