Professional Educators of Tennessee's Legislative Program
Professional Educators of Tennessee has been actively involved with the state legislature since its inception. We work year-round as a professional, positive voice focused on uniting educators in support of an exemplary public education for every Tennessee student. We provide ongoing political involvement training and a lobby day for members who choose to become actively involved in the political process. We give educators the information they need and the tools needed to stay informed. In our position as our members’ advocate at the Tennessee General Assembly in both the House and Senate, as well as working with Governor Haslam, the State Department of Education, and the State Board of Education, we have made great strides in impacting education-related legislation over the past few years.
As we grow in our relationships with our longtime supporters and develop/ educate potentially new supporters of Professional Educators of Tennessee, we will continue to focus on our core educational issues:
We believe in advocating positively, and in a manner that encourages cooperative solutions to the challenges that our educators presently face. Our Government Relations staff members work year-round to make Professional Educators of Tennessee’s legislative program become the priorities of Tennessee’s elected officials. With several school districts no longer engaging in Collective Bargaining after this summer, there will be numerous opportunities for our members to engage in Collaborative Conferencing and participate actively in the process, from gathering signatures on petitions to having a seat at the table. These are exciting times for Professional Educators of Tennessee members! Our member’s voices are being heard all across the state.
